The condition may cause varying degrees of paralysis.

The cause for Spina Bifia is not clearn because it is a strong combination of genetic and enviormental factors which give parents an increased risk of having a child with a neural tube defects. The first degree relative (parent) sibiling, the risk is about 1 in 25 chance. Its also natural for the child to have it during the birthing period.
